Take U5P2 pre-test (correct answers together)
Review MLK’s “I have a Dream” speech as discussed in class last week, briefly. (Guide students to refer back to the paraphrased sections we completed together as a model last Thursday.)
In pre-assigned groups, read through pre-assigned sections of the speech for your group to paraphrase. Read it once through as a general “refresher”, then define any unknown words using a dictionary.
Begin paraphrasing each line one at a time—analyzing MLK’s intended meaning and rewording it into your own words. Write your paraphrased lines on the side-by-side handout with original text.
Be prepared to “present”/explain your paraphrased section to the rest of the class tomorrow to help support others’ preparation for Thursday’s quiz.
With any extra time—
(1) complete the “Comprehension Check” questions with your group. We’ll discuss/correct answers as a class tomorrow.
(2) move on to another section to paraphrase for practice.
